Constructive Immediately, all Motorcar Gun registrations are now submitted via the Licensing Portal. ***Please note that your first machine gun registration, submitted via the Licensing Portal, will generate a warning that you are registering outside of the 24 hour acquisition period. ​Who Should Apply and/or Renew?

Per Criminal Law § 4-403(c), whatsoever person who acquires a machine gun shall register the machine gun with the Secretary of State Police within 24 hours later on acquiring the machine gun; and in each succeeding yr during the month of May.

Possession or employ of a motorcar gun is presumed to be for an offensive or aggressive purpose when the machine gun is non registered every bit required nether § 4-403, Criminal Law Article. A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject field to imprisonment not exceeding 10 years. Pursuant to Maryland statute registration data provided under this section is not open up to public inspection.

How to Apply and/or Renew

Effective March 1, 2021, Auto Gun owners volition register all machine guns in the Licensing Portal. Auto Gun owners who do not have a Licensing Portal business relationship volition exist required to create one in order to consummate their initial or annual car gun registration. Once a machine gun is registered in the Licensing Portal, the machine gun owner volition receive email notifications of annual registration periods and status updates of their submitted machine gun registration application. P aper motorcar gun registration forms postmarked later on February 28, 2021, will not be accepted and volition be returned with instructions to complete the auto gun​ registration in the Licensing Portal.
